In a recent report the Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA) reports that students in Ethiopia were arrested and taken to unknown destinations. Several times in the past the HRLHA has reported similar politically motivated violent actions against Ethiopian students. In all cases the violance was done by armed security forces of the Ethiopian government against students of higher education institutions. In this reference the Oromo students had been always the prime targets.
HRLHA and Oromo Human Right and Relief Organization calls up on regional and international diplomatic, democratic, and human rights agencies to challenge the Ethiopian TPLF/EPRDF regime on its persistent racial, discriminatory, dictatorial, and suppressive actions against the generations in charge of the futures of the country.

To Mr. Mario Guido Friggieri, Malta Government Commissioner for Refugees
His Excellency Commissioner,
the Oromo Human Right and Relief Organization with its acronym OMRHO e.V. was informed that the Oromo refugees who suffered during the last Libyan revolution escaped to save their lives and arrived in Malta on 28th and 9th of March 2011. The government of Malta immediately detained the following Oromo refugees in different prisons in Malta:
Der Äthiopier und Oromo Kenesa Yadetta Guluma soll von Deutschland aus wieder nach Äthiopien abgeschoben werden. Kenesa hatte in Berlin einen Asylantrag gestellt und befindet sich derzeit in Coburg. Das Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge hat den Antrag am 3.11.2010 abgelehnt. Seine Abschiebung steht nun unmittelbar bevor.
Kenesa Yadetta Guluma wurde vor 16 Jahren als Mitarbeiter der Oromo-Hilfsorganisation (ORA) verhaftet und gefoltert. Durch das Eingreifen von Amnesty International kam Kenesa schließlich nach zwei Monaten aus dem Haftlager frei. Von 1997 bis 2007 war er in einem von „Brot für die Welt“ finanzierten integrierten Landentwicklungsprojekt als Verwaltungsassistent tätig. Nach Abschluss des Projekts betrieb er seit 2008 einen kleinen Laden in Chanka. In dieser Zeit wurde er an den Markttagen regelmäßig von der Polizei abgeholt und eingeschüchtert. Am 4. März 2010 – also zwei Monate vor der Reise nach Berlin – drohten bewaffnete Soldaten ihn umzubringen, weil sie wüssten, dass er die Opposition in Oromia für die Wahlen im Mai 2010 unterstütze.
Eine Abschiebung nach Äthiopien kommt also einem Todesurteil gleich. Daher appellieren wir an alle Leser, Freunde und Interessierte, die Online-Petition für Kenesa zu unterzeichnen. Trotz der rund 1.600 Unterschriften fehlen noch ca. 3.400 Unterschriften. Für die Online-Petition verbleiben nur noch drei Tage. According to a new report of the Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLA) dozens of Oromos have been arrested amicably by the Ethiopian Government security forces in the past month. These circumstances are a part of the most recent violence against citizens in general and against the Oromo people in particular.
The HRLHA reported the names and identities of the arrested individuals. HRLHA is highly concerned about the safety of the listed victims. For further information you can read the attached pdf-file.
The Oromo Human Rights and Relief Organization received information that hundreds of Oromo refugees living in Egypt for years are suffering due to lack of social and humanitarian aid. These refugees could not get job and help themselves and their families. Though they applied for resettlement in a third country where they hope to find jobs and support themselves, their request is not accepted.
According to the information which reached the Oromo Human Rights and Relief Organization this week six Oromo legal refugees who escaped from Ethiopia to save their lives are arrested by the Indonesian government and are threatened to be deported. The Oromo civilians who faced psychological and physical tortures in Ethiopia being suspected of supporting the Oromo Liberation (OLF) managed to escape from Ethiopia, arrived in Jakarta the capital city of Indonesia and applied for asylum. The UNHCR received their application and gave them identification numbers as legal refugees. However, the Indonesian government took their documents and imprisoned them in Jakarta.
Recently the Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA) reported new kidnappings and disappearances of university students in Ethiopia. In its urgent action and appeal letter the HRLHA lists 19 students who were kidnapped by the Ethiopian Security force at different places and time on their way to their home in June 2011.
Development Aid Money Misused for Political Repression in Ethiopia

It is a sad but true story: The Ethiopian government is misusing development aid money for political repression. Rape, torture and imprisonment are part of the everyday life in Ethiopia. While Ethiopian people are starving the Ethiopian government is spending aid money for crime. The humanitary crises and the money aid which is received by the Ethiopian government supports systematic human rights abuses. Money aid is used as a weapon against Ethiopians civilization. In den letzten Tagen besuchte unsere Bundeskanzlerin, Frau Angela Merkel, drei afrikanische Länder. In allen drei Ländern, Kenia, Angola und Nigeria sind die Menschen bitterarm. Die Regierungen dagegen sind äußerst korrupt und verprassen die Entwicklungshilfegelder ungeniert in unerträglichem Maß für Ihre eigenen Interessen – nicht aber zum Wohl der leidenden Menschen in ihren eigenen Ländern. Menschenrechtsverletzungen an anders denkenden Oppositionellen, aber auch an ganz einfachen Menschen gehören zum Alltag. Natürlich ist dies der Deutschen Regierung bekannt. Aber leider verfügen alle drei Länder über Bodenschätze, an denen die deutsche Wirtschaft Interesse hat.
Bildgewaltiger Kino-Epos „Morgentau“ aus Äthiopien läuft am 14. Juli in Hannover

Am kommenden Donnerstag (14.07.11) läuft der preisgekrönte Film „Morgentau“ des Regisseurs Haile Gerima im Kino am Raschplatz in Hannover. Selten bietet sich die Gelegenheit, einen so unverfälschten afrikanischen Film in den deutschen Kinos zu bewundern.
Der Film möchte Interesse für Äthiopien wecken und ein Bewusstsein für die dortigen Lebensumstände und Probleme schaffen. Dies ist dem Regisseur mit seinem aktuellen Film sehr gut gelungen.
